Langer in the Community

Our School in the Heart of the Community

At our school, we are proud to play an active and caring role within the local community. Throughout the year, our students and staff take part in a wide range of meaningful events and partnerships that help strengthen our connection with the people and places around us.

This year, we once again attended the annual Flood Memorial Service on Langer Road — an important moment of reflection for our town. We were honoured to host tea and cake afterwards, providing a warm space for conversation and giving our students a lovely opportunity to express themselves and support others.

Our commitment to community continues throughout the year with regular visits to local care homes, where our students enjoy spending time with residents, sharing stories, and building friendships across generations. We are also delighted to be taking part in a gardening project at Cotman House, where students are helping create bright, welcoming outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Recently, our students took to the airwaves on local radio to talk about how much they value our enrichment programme and to celebrate our new Beach School status — a unique part of our curriculum that allows learning to extend beyond the classroom and into our beautiful coastal environment.

Our school also holds strong links with local churches. We host our annual Christmas service at St John’s Church on Orwell Road, and each year we are treated to a wonderful visit from the Salvation Army Band, who fill the hall with festive carols and bring the Christmas spirit to life for our whole school community. We are grateful for the ongoing support of Rev Penny and Rev Helen, who visit us regularly, and this year we were excited to celebrate our very first Easter service at the River of Life Church.

A highlight for many students was our recent trip on the Felixstowe Wheel. Thanks to the generosity of the owner, the experience came at no cost, and the Lions Club made the day even more special by treating every student to an ice cream.

These experiences reflect who we are: a school that values connection, kindness, and community spirit. We are incredibly proud of our students and the positive contributions they make, and we look forward to continuing to grow alongside our community in the years ahead
